Ventrue

#lore #clans

The Ventrue are the lords. Commanding, disciplined, and accustomed to authority, they are the clan most naturally aligned with the structures of power that govern Kindred society — and most likely to be found at the top of them. This is not coincidence. The Ventrue cultivate leadership the way other clans cultivate other things, and they have been doing it for a very long time.

Their powers are:

Weakness

The Ventrue cannot feed freely. Each Ventrue has a specific type of prey from which they can draw sustenance — defined at their embrace, narrow, and immovable. Blood from outside this type provides no nourishment and will be rejected. What defines this restriction varies: a mortal demographic, an emotional state, a bloodline. Whatever it is, the Ventrue must find and maintain access to it, which shapes their mortal entanglements considerably.

History

The Ventrue's fingerprints are on much of Kindred political history. The structures most domains take for granted — the role of Prince, the system of acknowledged territory, the conventions of fealty — are largely Ventrue exports, spread through centuries of political dominance. Their relationship with the Invictus is deep and longstanding, though not exclusive; Ventrue are found across covenants, bringing their instinct for structure wherever they go.
